Bed Situation

So this is our bed situation on most nights. A King and Queen bed smushed together should be plenty of space. In theory. In practice, not so much.
But Stella looks so comfortable with her one front leg hanging out. Can I really ask her to move? And Kelli in the background is all about the pillows.

Jenny says she is doing her part. After being an outside dog for most of the year, a double stacked dog bed is just fine with her.

Goodbye Mr. Greyson

I am sad to say that we lost Mr. Greyson last week. He had a good 16 years with us. He was healthy up until the very end.
We were worried how he would settle in to the new house by himself without Isabel. But he really came out of his shell. He would stand at the front door and watch the world go by.
He even ventured out into the yard. With so many greyhounds going through the house, we had to start closing the door, which defeated the purpose of having a doggie door.
He also loved sitting on the couch where he could see everything. Can you tell there is catnip in that bag?
He even allowed the dogs to share the couch with him.
He was a good kitty. We will miss him. Not sure if the dogs will miss getting hissed and swatted at.

New Girls & Gravel

Who would’ve thought we’d go from three dogs to five in a matter of weeks. Both girls are settling in nicely.
Lots of new things to be curious about. Kelli (New Girl) is fascinated with the dump truck pouring new gravel on our road. I’d help out, but I’m the only one of my neighbors without my own tractor.
Wasn’t long before Jenny (New New Girl) decided to come out and see what the fuss is all about. Being almost 12, and having been off the track for a long time, she’d seen lots of things in her lifetime, and quickly lost interest.
Kelli, on the other hand, just couldn’t get enough of the big noisy happenings on outside.
Kelli has been the big toy fiend, but Jenny had fun eviscerating the gorilla.
After Jenny was done, Kelli swooped in to complete the job.
A parting shot of Stanley. He had just returned from Beach Bound Hounds, and got his annual bath. He was tired from the beach and cold from the bath, so we covered him. You can see what made him so tired at Trina’s blog about Beach Bound Hounds.

New Collars

Kris took Stanley and Kelli to Beach Bound Hounds with Trina, who took her Cali and Dana. Kris came back with a new Houndstown collar for Kelli. We're going with the green theme for her (embroidered collar and leash too).
She also came back with a new collar for Jenny. Jenny is definitely more girly than Kelli, so she got the pink collar. Who gets a new collar for their fosters? Guess this means she's our now.
Oh, and not only does Kelli like to collect toys on our bed. She likes to destroy Stanley's wiffle balls. What would have lasted Stanley years, got destroyed by Kelli in a matter of minutes. We'd take the chewed one away. She'd go to the basket and get another. And now we are a wiffle ball-free household.

Jenny Craig

Meet Jenny. She will be 11 years old in a couple of months, and is our latest foster dog. She is nicknamed ‘Jenny Craig’, because her name is Jenny, and we got her off Craigslist. Yep, free to a good home. She had been living outside for several months. Now she’s inside with my kids. Of course she picked the biggest cushiest bed.
She is a pro at using the doggie door. She seems quite happy to be able to go in and out by herself.
Kelli: Daddy, is this my good side?
How’s my snaggletooth?

How about this pondering look?

Furniture Friday

I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that 3 or 4 dogs would lay in the bed all day long, after sleeping on it with us all night long. Poor bed never got a chance to recover. So it was time for new mattresses. Since they are of the same make & model this time, and we got matching covers, it looks like one big bed.
Once the beds were made, and the baby gate went away, dogs appeared like magic. The extra is Blue, who is all for new bed testing.
We also got new night stands and dressers, but the kids were only interested in the beds. I know you're a touchy-feely group, but you guys can spread out.
There, plenty of stretch room for everyone.
With the boys elsewhere, the girls take their turn at synchronized napping.

Stella's Last Chemo & Kelli Settles In

Over 4 months later, Stella had her last  of 5 chemo treatments two weeks ago. She goes in for a final checkup next Monday. Yes, Stella, you really are chemotherapy graduate.
The people who normally day break our dogs celebrated their first anniversary, and we watched their pups. Sooie is not used to a big yard, and took full advantage of it.
Her sister, Belle, is too refined to be caught doing such things. Their brother, Beau, spent most of his time in the bedroom napping with my kids.
Kelli quickly upgraded from crate pad, to dog bed, to human bed. Much like Stella and Stanely, she sees no real point in ever getting off. She seems to be ok with being in a headlock.
Greyson heard she was cat-friendly, and had to come and see for himself.
She was initially a bit hesitant about going in the yard. After having mastered that, and the bed, there was only one thing left to do. The toy basket.
Back to the bed with her prize. She carries them to bed throughout the day. The stuffies are not a problem, but we have to make sure there are no bones or antlers before we get into bed for the night.

Stella & Kelli

Stella turned 12 last weekend. She celebrated by spatchcocking herself. We were hoping to celebrate her last chemo treatment on Monday, but her white cells were too low, so a week on antibiotics, and recheck next week. Between Jaime and Stella, we have been going to chemo treatments since March.
What Stella did get for her birthday was a new ‘little’ sister. I say ‘little’ because she is 80 lbs. Meet Talianna Kazoo, now Kelli. Brody & Jarkko are very interested. Stella: So who’s the new girl?
She was a good racer, but when she broke her hock, it put her on the path to our house. The pin was removed, but it’s only been a couple of weeks, so she still steps gingerly on that leg.
With all the dogs that come through the house, it took Stanley a while to notice. He was last in line.
Mr Toad says it’s only fair, since Kelli tried to sniff his bum.
Stanley tries to show her how to use the ramp, but she thinks he’s too slow.
The hair hasn’t even had a chance to grow back on her leg. With no stairs in the house or to get out to the yard, we figured we’d be a good home for a broken legged dog.
Are you my new daddy?
Surveying her new digs.
I watched Petey for a weekend. He thought Greyson’s bed was an awesome place, where he could keep an eye on everything. Kitty cat was not happy about it.
Brody is just a happy fella.
And his brother Jarkko is a handsome dude.
Parker busted eating nuggets in the yard.
Kelli quickly figured out that a big bed was more comfortable than the floor.
Starting to feel more comfortable.
Normally all our dogs have their vet work done in Florida before coming up. But due to her leg surgery and then being in heat, she didn’t get a chance. She is at our local vet today. She had a spay, dental, and hernia taken care of. She is out of surgery, and we’ll pick her up tomorrow morning.
