Local Wildlife

The trees have all filled in now, the heat and humidity have arrived. And so have the local wildlife. The deer and turkey are local fixtures. But there are plenty of other critters who call this area home.
The insects can be big out here. Not sure what this mosquito like insect is.Mosquito-2014-06-8-21-13.jpg

  4. Lovely variety of birds and insects. The first one looks like a Daddy Long legs or Crane Fly.

  5. Beautiful pictures~ that moth is so colorful! We used to have birds building nests in our BBQ grill till Dad blocked the side holes. And we haven't see our bunny for a few days, he may have moved on.

  6. Beautiful photos. That moth does indeed look very fluffy and the prehistoric toad is just hilarious. Oh-Oh, you didn't tell me that mouse was as cute as that... He looks more like a Dormouse than the grey ones we get.

  9. Love these photos! It feels like you could just reach out and touch the creatures! Of course, maybe some of them--one wouldn't want to touch!

  11. We get that giant mosquito like thing here to (but we don't get skinks and for that I'm truly sad). We always called them Texas mosquitos.

  12. It's a Mosquito Hawk and they eat your mosquitos so even though they are big they are harmless to you and actually good to have around!

  14. That giant mosquito like thing is a mosquito hawk, and they eat mosquitoes! They're your friends! ;) My favorite is that pink and yellow moth! That thing looks too funky to be real!

  15. I have to say the moth looks almost edible! I've never seen anything like that before! I know we don't have them here. We do have skinks, I rescued one here a few weeks ago before the dogs found it. I just put out bread for 'my (boring) birds' as I tend to end up with a lawn of birdseed otherwise! Love all your birdphotos. Any hummingbirds in the new place?
