The trees have all filled in now, the heat and humidity have arrived. And so have the local wildlife. The deer and turkey are local fixtures. But there are plenty of other critters who call this area home.
The insects can be big out here. Not sure what this mosquito like insect is.
A toad in the yard, doing his best prehistoric look.
And this moth looks so fuzzy, I want to pet it.
A skink sunning itself on the garage wall. Kelli seems to have a taste for skinks.
When I gave the grill its annual cleaning, I felt like a slumlord when I evicted this guy.
The bird feeder has attracted a wide variety of birds. This appears to be a sparrow or bunting. I’m am not very good with my bird species.
It even managed to attract a butterfly.
A Titmouse is wondering if the new bird feeder is for real.
It sure is, Mr. Titmouse.
A sparrow shows how it done. Grab the sunflower seed.
Move it around with the beak.
Blammo. It’s shelled and ready to eat.
A Goldfinch comes by to see what the brouhaha is about.

We have those giant mosquito-like things too. They always scare the crap out of me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird shots...Not sure, but I think the first big mosquito big might be a Mayfly...
ReplyDeleteSpring has definitely sprung!!
Crikey .... that's a lot of interesting critters. That moth is something else, aye? I've NEVER seen anything like that. Looks like a lollypop or something!!
ReplyDeleteLovely variety of birds and insects. The first one looks like a Daddy Long legs or Crane Fly.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures~ that moth is so colorful! We used to have birds building nests in our BBQ grill till Dad blocked the side holes. And we haven't see our bunny for a few days, he may have moved on.

Beautiful photos. That moth does indeed look very fluffy and the prehistoric toad is just hilarious. Oh-Oh, you didn't tell me that mouse was as cute as that... He looks more like a Dormouse than the grey ones we get.

I think that is a crane fly. They are everywhere and harmless. Great bird shots!!
ReplyDeleteLove the bird shots. Don't miss having those skinks around.
ReplyDeleteLove these photos! It feels like you could just reach out and touch the creatures! Of course, maybe some of them--one wouldn't want to touch!
ReplyDeleteThe moth is really pretty looking. Love all the pictures!
ReplyDeleteWe get that giant mosquito like thing here to (but we don't get skinks and for that I'm truly sad). We always called them Texas mosquitos.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Mosquito Hawk and they eat your mosquitos so even though they are big they are harmless to you and actually good to have around!
ReplyDeleteThat moth is so vivid!
ReplyDeleteThat pink and yellow moth is so pretty!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour very own wildlife park!!
ReplyDeleteThat giant mosquito like thing is a mosquito hawk, and they eat mosquitoes! They're your friends! ;) My favorite is that pink and yellow moth! That thing looks too funky to be real!
ReplyDeleteI have to say the moth looks almost edible! I've never seen anything like that before! I know we don't have them here. We do have skinks, I rescued one here a few weeks ago before the dogs found it. I just put out bread for 'my (boring) birds' as I tend to end up with a lawn of birdseed otherwise! Love all your birdphotos. Any hummingbirds in the new place?
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys really are in critter country! Love the moth, but man does that toad look mean!
