Sixteen Dogs for Christmas

I got frozen pigs ears and whole pork leg bones for the kids to knaw on while I was on vacation for a couple of weeks. I vacuum-sealed the leg bones for later.Beth says fresh unsmoked pigs ears are yummy.Stanley and Stella are holding on to their’s, but not really sure what to do with it.We haven’t had a Christmas tree in years. Something to do with the kids/fosters/boarders pulling down the tree, gnawing on the ornaments, then marking the conquest as their’s. Kris got a 2 foot tree that we could put on the island. After watching Beth use the stairs, we decided that it would be best to build a ramp for her. The kids would just jump off. At least Beth used the entire ramp as designed.Kris reading feeding instructions. With 16 dogs for a week. It took a little effort during feeding time.We finally decided on two shifts. Fast and slow eaters.Potty time caused a bottleneck at the door. I followed them daily after breakfast with a pooper scooper.Alle tried to gum her pig’s ear to death.I could not get all 16 dogs in one shot. Clockwise from bottom left is Abby, Jaime, Beverly, Stanley, Stella, Alle, Billie, Sallie, Sugar in the corner, Chloe in the center surrounded by Beth, Roadie, and Bergie, and Parker is under the burgundy blanket next to the table. Not pictured are Blue and Max. Whew! 16 dogs is not for the faint of heart.Dogs, dogs, everywhere.Bev had slight sleep aggression / space issues. Stanley changed her mind.Sugar and Billie resign themselves to the small beds. The kids are finally getting the hang of it.

  1. Wow, you guys certainly had your hands full! That must me some sort of greyhound dogsitting record. I don't know why, but I love the last picture with Parker just staring at the camera like, "Why, dad, why?"

  2. Wow, that's a lot of greyhounds! That's so nice that you built a ramp for Beth. It looks very sturdy and I like the it slopes.

  3. Oh my gosh, that's A LOT of greyhounds! I just get all warm and fuzzy seeing a living room like that. I hope it's mine some day, but I bet you most certainly had your hands full!

  4. That's quite a posse! Holy smokes! I love Beth's ramp. If we had room, I'd ask hubby to build one for our old lady. I'm starting to think we're going to have to carry her up the back steps whether she likes it or not.

  7. Whew, the most I have had at my house is 7 hounds. That was crazy enough for me. We need a ramp too, but from the second story, not an easy feat. I think we just need to fence in the front yard, which doesn't require steps!

  8. 16 dogs - wow! I love the bottleneck photo. Thanks also for posting the pic of your ramp. We've been discussing how to do something similar off our deck. Our 9 yo girl and 10 yo boy are starting to have trouble on the stairs.

  10. Greyhounds are amazing! Still, 16 hounds at one time?! Bless you! I can't believe you managed to get 14 of them in one picture - much less all in the same room and sleeping :)

  12. Wow!! What an assignment! Three dogs sometimes feels like a thousand around here. I always say I feel like the pied piper, becuase they all follow me around when I have anything interesting. You'd just get stampeded with 16 doing that LOL!

Cheers to you (and your husband!!) for being able to pull that off!

  13. You guys are AMAZING. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with 4 dogs! And everything always looks so tranquil at your house - you two must be part-time Zen Masters.

  14. I SO agree with Harvey and Jackson ... you guys ARE the Zen-MASTERS of the greyhound world! You two are my heroes ... I could only wish that I would meet someone with a matching love for rescuing canines. It is so wonderful how you work together. In my world, my family, my neighborhood, I am the just the crazy dog lady! hahahahaha Thanks for all you do for these precious little souls! <3

  15. Can you give us a little more info about building the ramp? Our back deck has 10 steps and we want to build something similar. What do you guess the grade or angle of the ramp is? Is it a comparable to wheelchair accessible? Our girl is seeing the specialist/ortho vet at the university this week and we need to do something to help her on the stairs. (Other than me carting her up and down them!) Thanks!
